Our waste management officers – your experts in sustainable waste disposal

Our waste management officers deal with waste from the chemical and pharmaceutical industries on a daily basis at the Höchst Industrial Park.

Sustainability, compliance, environmental protection, reputation management – why it’s hard to do waste right

Growing awareness of environmental issues, sustainability, resource scarcity and climate change are forcing companies, especially those in the chemical and pharmaceutical sector, to constantly re-evaluate and optimize how they handle waste from an environmental perspective.

The law imposes a host of requirements on plant operators. However, it is often difficult to keep up with all the regulatory changes while managing day-to-day business operations.

In addition, inadequate waste documentation means many companies do not know how much waste they produce each year, or what kind of waste it is – and so may not be in compliance with the law.

Get outside help – and focus on your real business

Infraserv Höchst’s external waste management officers can help remedy this situation easily and cost-effectively. They know all the relevant laws and regulations inside out and can show you ways to solve your sector’s waste problems in a sustainable, eco-friendly, legally compliant and cost-effective manner.

When do you need a waste management officer?

The Waste Management Officer Regulation (AbfBeauftrV), initially passed in 1971 and last amended in June 2017, imposes a duty to appoint a waste management officer, along with the Second Regulation on the Further Development of Waste Law Monitoring for Companies (“ Zweite Verordnung zur Fortentwicklung der abfallrechtlichen Überwachung”). Section 60 of the German Closed Substance Cycle and Waste Management Act (KrWG) provides a further legal basis for the waste management officer function.

According to § 2 of the Waste Management Officer Regulation, operators of facilities permittable under the 4th Federal Immission Control Regulation (BImSchV) are required to appoint a waste management officer if they generate more than 100 metric tons of hazardous waste or more than 2,000 metric tons of non-hazardous waste per calendar year.

How an external waste management officer can make your business more efficient and economical

It is obviously possible for companies to make employees their waste management officers. However, this will unnecessarily tie up resources that that company can no longer use. Moreover, these employees will not only have to be released from their regular duties but will also have to undergo regular costly training at their employer’s expense.

Infraserv Höchst can provide you with an external waste management officer who first assesses your company’s situation and then develops a custom optimization strategy.
Our waste management officers analyze improvement opportunities at your laboratories, factories, office buildings and warehouses. They liaise between your company, your waste management contractors and government agencies. They advise senior executives as well as line managers, teams and employees on handling waste in full compliance with sound legal and environmental principles.
